It is with great sadness that I share this news with our friends. September 24th our long time family member, Grandad, passed away surrounded by his family and friends.
He was well into his 22nd year and enjoyed a happy and healthy life until about two months ago when he was diagnosed with renal issues. His last weeks with us saw him slow up some, and lose weight, but he was ever good natured and loving. It was not until just a few days ago that it seemed as if he himself, was ready to make that final journey .
Grandad lived the first part of his life in Halifax as a suave, popular, outdoor gentleman, ever a favourite of the ladies. He led a very interesting life, although he rarely shared stories of that early time of his life with us. He was very fond of tuna and enjoyed a large breakfast of his favourite dish on the day that he left us.
He is survived by his son Thomas Ashton-Mongeat, daughter-in- law Geri Mullin, and his nephew Tuffy, as well as his human family Alfie and Anna. They will miss him most of all.
Grandad was ever the gentleman, proud, respectable, well-groomed and always the wise peacemaker. If only he had written his memoirs, they would have indeed been a best seller. We can only imagine!
Special thanks to his gentle physicians, Dr Teresa and Dr Sara who cared for him so lovingly throughout his life, and especially in his final days.
You will never be far from our hearts Grandad, wait for us, we will join you one day!
"Say not in grief 'he is no more' but live in thankfulness that he was."
-Hebrew proverb

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...
